re:works

The concept of the compilation was taking some of the greatest classical and contemporary pieces ever written and have them remixed by current electronic artists and DJs. We looked at the significance and history of the Decca brand and wanted to create something that reflected both the classical and contemporary nature of the music.

Using the bold red and blue colours that the labels logo is synonymous with, we tore it apart and rebuilt it, representing a visual metaphor to illustrate the ‘remixed classics’ concept of the album.

Biffy Clyro – Ellipsis

We were approached by Warner Music to design the new Biffy Clyro album Ellipsis. An important part of the brief was for the aesthetic to be a complete departure from the previous artworks.

The creative needed to be stark and minimalist to reflect the new records stripped back approach to production. The three dots of the ellipses represent each of the three band members, and also the idea of this album continuing their story. After release the album went to number one in the charts and received critical acclaim.

Full campaign elements included a new band logo, special edition book, vinyl, CD and single artworks.

Cheikh Lô – Ne La Thiass

Album design for a re-release of West African artist Cheikh Lo’s debut album ‘Ne La Thiass’. We created the new artwork, promotional graphics and developed an irregular typographic language based on the original 1995 cassette.

We also designed the CD, promotional postcards and a new supporting 16 page booklet containing lyrics and the stories behind the tracks, all accompanied by original Senegalese glass paintings.

Produced in Senegal by Youssou N’Dour, fusing Mande, Wolof and Congolese music with Lô’s passion for Cuban rhythms.
